Originally Cuchara Camps, a summer resort, the Cuchara
Valley's scenery is some of the best in the state. Early settlers
found the climate and soil in the high meadows well suited for growing potatoes,
a crop also raised by the Indians. Cuchara is Spanish for
spoon. Take a walk on the Boardwalk in Cuchara - stop in for a
cold one at the Boardwalk Saloon, also known by the locals as the "Dog
